That Credit Union Blog

That Credit Union Blog

I’ve been talking about doing a credit union blog for over a year.  Even now, credit union blogs are not commonplace.  Two of my favorites are Open Source CU and True Stories.  I didn’t put any energy into it last year because I needed to focus on the podcast.  The podcast is doing great so now it just seems time to pull the trigger on the blog.

Ok, so what are we trying to do here?  Well, what does any blog do but disseminate information and opinions about stuff, in this case, credit unions and the credit union movement.  It’s going to be a group effort.  I work with some very talented people and all of them are very dedicated to the credit union movement and will have some things to say.  We’ll have articles ranging from things as diverse as regulatory issues, operational challenges and overall trends concerning credit unions.  We’ll also be tracking the various seminars being given by people on our team.  Of course it wouldn’t be a blog without opinion pieces.  If we can’t keep the mood light, we probably shouldn’t do it.

As a disclaimer, yes, I am a credit union lawyer and when I talk about people on the team, I’m talking about people who work at our firm.  Yes, we represent credit unions, but we didn’t brand this blog on purpose.  This blog is not supposed to be an advertisement.  It’s supposed to be a node on the Internet for people who are interested in credit unions to take away information that’s useful to them.

Another reason we’re doing this, frankly, is because it’s fun.  It’s the golden age of blogging.  The Internet is still, for now, a largely unregulated place where people can express relatively unfiltered ideas and information.  Blogging is about freely sharing information and this information, in turn, helps people who need it.  So really, blogging is people helping people and that is definitely a worthy goal.
